Interview to/avec ROCKY

Singer ROCKY (라키) made his debut on February 23, 2016, as a member of ASTRO under Fantagio, with the group’s mini album "Spring Up".
Since then, he has steadily grown while developing his own unique color across various areas, including music, performance, lyric writing, and composition. After going through unexpected changes and turning points, he began a new chapter as a solo artist with his EP "ROCKYST".
Since then, together with WONIJIN Entertainment, he has continued various activities in music, performances, and content. Following "BLANK", he showed deeper musicality and emotion through his single "Forever and Ever".

Le chanteur ROCKY a fait ses débuts le 23 février 2016 en tant que membre du groupe ASTRO, sous le label Fantagio, avec le mini-album "Spring Up".
Depuis lors, il n’a cessé de progresser tout en développant sa propre identité artistique dans divers domaines, notamment la musique, la scène, l’écriture de paroles et la composition. Après avoir traversé des changements et des tournants inattendus, il a entamé un nouveau chapitre en tant qu’artiste solo avec son EP "ROCKYST".
Depuis, en collaboration avec WONIJIN Entertainment, il a poursuivi diverses activités dans les domaines de la musique, de la scène et de la création de contenu. Après "BLANK", il a fait preuve d’une musicalité et d’une émotion plus profondes à travers son single "Forever and Ever".

KZ - Besides singing, dancing, lyric writing, and composing, what do you think is your hidden talent?

ROCKY - One ability that I think naturally developed after spending a long time as an artist is the sense of seeing the overall flow of a stage or content. I tend to think a lot about how music, choreography, facial expressions, mood, and stage direction can come together to deliver better emotions and energy.

I still think I have a lot to improve, so I try to pay attention even to the smallest details. I don’t think anyone is perfect, so I’m still continuing to learn and grow. In the end, I think I want to become someone who can sincerely convey his heart through better performances and music.

KZ - Outre le chant, la danse, l'écriture de paroles et la composition, quel est, selon toi, ton talent caché ?

ROCKY - Une aptitude qui s'est développée naturellement après avoir passé beaucoup de temps en tant qu'artiste, c'est ma capacité à percevoir la fluidité globale d'une scène ou d'un contenu. J'ai tendance à beaucoup réfléchir à la manière dont la musique, la chorégraphie, les expressions faciales, l'ambiance et la mise en scène peuvent s'harmoniser pour transmettre davantage d'émotions et d'énergie.

Je pense que j’ai encore beaucoup à améliorer, alors j’essaie d’être attentif aux moindres détails. Je ne pense pas que quiconque soit parfait, donc je continue d’apprendre et d’évoluer. Au final, je pense que je veux devenir quelqu’un capable de transmettre sincèrement ce qu’il ressent à travers de meilleures performances et une meilleure musique.

KZ - In June 2025, the 4th “ASTROAD” was held. How did you feel after being together with the ASTRO members again?

ROCKY - It was a moment filled with so many different emotions. They are members I spent a long time with and people who are very precious to me, so there were feelings on stage that were difficult to describe in words.

I think it was a special moment for the fans as well, and I participated with a very grateful heart. It was a moment that made me feel once again that there are feelings that do not change even as time passes, and it was a very meaningful time for me.

KZ - En juin 2025, la 4e édition de l’« ASTROAD » a eu lieu. Qu’as-tu ressenti après avoir retrouvé les membres d’ASTRO ?

ROCKY - Ce fut un moment riche en émotions diverses. Ce sont des membres avec lesquels j’ai passé beaucoup de temps et des personnes qui me sont très chères, alors j’ai éprouvé sur scène des sentiments difficiles à décrire avec des mots.

Je pense que ce fut également un moment spécial pour les fans, et j’y ai participé avec une immense gratitude. Ce moment m’a fait réaliser une fois de plus qu’il existe des sentiments qui ne changent pas même avec le temps, et ce fut un moment très significatif pour moi.

KZ - Let’s talk about your career. From "ROCKYST" to "Forever and Ever", what do you think was the biggest challenge?

ROCKY - I think the biggest challenge was the process of rebuilding my own path through many changes. A new beginning can be exciting, but at the same time, it also comes with a lot of responsibility and worries.

There were unexpected turning points, but through those times, I was able to think more deeply about what kind of artist I am and what kind of music and performances I want to show in the future. ROCKYST was an album through which I wanted to clearly show my color for the first time as a solo artist, and I think the works that followed were part of the process of gradually expanding that color.

By the time I reached Forever and Ever, my desire to become more honest both musically and emotionally had grown stronger. It was not always easy, but I think all of those experiences made me a little stronger.

Rather than staying in one fixed image, I want to continue challenging myself and growing, and become an artist who conveys sincerity through my music and performances.

KZ - Parlons de ta carrière. De "ROCKYST" à "Forever and Ever", quel a été, selon toi, le plus grand défi ?

ROCKY - Je pense que le plus grand défi a été de me reconstruire un chemin à travers de nombreux changements. Un nouveau départ peut être passionnant, mais en même temps, il s’accompagne aussi de beaucoup de responsabilités et d’inquiétudes.

Il y a eu des tournants inattendus, mais ces moments m’ont permis de réfléchir plus profondément au type d’artiste que je suis et au genre de musique et de performances que je souhaite proposer à l’avenir. ROCKYST était un album à travers lequel je voulais montrer clairement ma couleur pour la première fois en tant qu’artiste solo, et je pense que les œuvres qui ont suivi faisaient partie du processus visant à élargir progressivement cette palette.

Au moment où j’ai sorti Forever and Ever, mon désir de devenir plus honnête, tant sur le plan musical qu’émotionnel, s’était renforcé. Cela n’a pas toujours été facile, mais je pense que toutes ces expériences m’ont rendu un peu plus fort.

Plutôt que de rester figé dans une image unique, je souhaite continuer à me lancer des défis et à évoluer, pour devenir un artiste qui transmet de la sincérité à travers ma musique et mes performances.

KZ - Let’s talk about "BA BA BYE". What, or who, would you like to say goodbye to forever?

ROCKY - Rather than a specific person, I would like to say goodbye to the anxiety and fear inside me. There are times when not being able to trust myself feels harder than saying goodbye to someone else.

So from now on, I want to make music more freely and honestly, and I want to stand on stage with trust rather than anxiety. I still have a lot to improve, but I want to continue showing myself growing.

KZ - Parlons de « BA BA BYE ». À quoi, ou à qui, aimerais-tu dire adieu pour toujours ?

ROCKY - Plutôt qu’à une personne en particulier, j’aimerais dire adieu à l’anxiété et à la peur qui m’habitent. Il y a des moments où ne pas pouvoir me faire confiance me semble plus difficile que de dire adieu à quelqu’un d’autre.

Alors à partir de maintenant, je veux faire de la musique plus librement et plus honnêtement, et je veux monter sur scène avec confiance plutôt qu’avec de l’anxiété. J’ai encore beaucoup à améliorer, mais je veux continuer à montrer que je grandis.

KZ - As both the CEO of your company and an artist, what has been the most difficult part of balancing those two roles? If there is an interesting story related to this, please share it with us.

ROCKY - On stage, I am an artist, but off stage, there are many realistic concerns. Even when preparing for a single performance, there are so many things to consider, including the music, production, schedule, budget, and fan service.

Sometimes, while I’m in a meeting, I suddenly think, “Oh, I need to go practice too,” and then I head back to the practice room. (Laughs) It is not easy, but because of that, my desire to show better sides of myself to the fans becomes even stronger.

Above all, having both roles as an artist and a company CEO has made me feel a greater sense of responsibility. That is why I think more carefully about everything I do, even the smallest things.

KZ - En tant que PDG de votre entreprise et artiste, quelle a été la partie la plus difficile pour concilier ces deux rôles ? Si vous avez une anecdote intéressante à ce sujet, n’hésitez pas à la partager avec nous.

ROCKY - Sur scène, je suis un artiste, mais en dehors, il y a beaucoup de préoccupations concrètes. Même pour préparer un seul concert, il y a tellement de choses à prendre en compte : la musique, la production, le planning, le budget et l’attention à porter aux fans.

Parfois, alors que je suis en réunion, je me dis soudain : « Oh, je dois aussi aller m'entraîner », et je retourne alors en salle de répétition. (Rires) Ce n'est pas facile, mais c'est justement pour cela que mon envie de montrer le meilleur de moi-même à mes fans n'en est que plus forte.

Par-dessus tout, le fait d’assumer à la fois le rôle d’artiste et celui de PDG de la société m’a donné un sens des responsabilités accru. C’est pourquoi je réfléchis plus attentivement à tout ce que je fais, même aux plus petites choses.

KZ - Among the many activities you are doing, such as singing, dancing, being a CEO, and acting, which one are you most proud of, and why?

ROCKY - In the end, I think it is myself on stage. No matter what, the time I spend singing and dancing in front of fans is when I feel the happiest, and it is also the moment when I gain strength again.

There were difficult times, but whenever I stood on stage, I was always sincere. I think those moments helped me endure and become who I am today. The moment of sharing the same space and the same emotions with fans has the greatest meaning to me, and that is why I still strongly want to continue standing on stage.

KZ - Parmi toutes les activités que tu mènes, comme le chant, la danse, ton rôle de PDG et le métier d’acteur, de laquelle es-tu le plus fier, et pourquoi ?

ROCKY - En fin de compte, je pense que c’est moi-même sur scène. Quoi qu’il arrive, c’est quand je chante et danse devant mes fans que je me sens le plus heureux, et c’est aussi à ce moment-là que je reprends des forces.

J'ai traversé des moments difficiles, mais chaque fois que je montais sur scène, j'étais toujours sincère. Je pense que ces moments m'ont aidé à tenir bon et à devenir qui je suis aujourd'hui. Le fait de partager le même espace et les mêmes émotions avec les fans a une importance capitale pour moi, et c'est pourquoi je tiens toujours autant à continuer à monter sur scène.

KZ - As a composer, you have worked with Weeekly, HAWW, and also collaborated with Chawoo. What kind of artist would you like to collaborate with in the future, and why?

ROCKY - Rather than limiting myself to a specific genre, I would like to work with artists who can exchange good energy with me. I think it would be fun to collaborate with artists who have strong performances, and I would also like to work with artists who are good at emotional music.

I believe that when different colors meet, unexpected and great results can come out. If it is a project where we can inspire each other musically and discover new sides of ourselves, I would be open to working with any artist.

KZ - En tant que compositeur, tu as travaillé avec Weeekly, HAWW et tu as également collaboré avec Chawoo. Avec quel type d’artiste aimerais-tu collaborer à l’avenir, et pourquoi ?

ROCKY - Plutôt que de me limiter à un genre spécifique, j’aimerais travailler avec des artistes avec lesquels je peux échanger une bonne énergie. Je pense que ce serait sympa de collaborer avec des artistes qui ont une forte présence scénique, et j’aimerais aussi travailler avec des artistes doués pour la musique émotionnelle.

Je crois que lorsque des couleurs différentes se rencontrent, cela peut donner des résultats inattendus et formidables. S’il s’agit d’un projet où nous pouvons nous inspirer mutuellement sur le plan musical et découvrir de nouvelles facettes de nous-mêmes, je serais ouvert à travailler avec n’importe quel artiste.

KZ - You once hinted at a new project around the middle of this year. Could you give us a small hint?

ROCKY - I am preparing a new story that will allow me to get a little closer to the fans. I hope it will be a project where we can share not only music, but also the stage, content, and emotions together.

I am preparing it with sincerity so that, after waiting, fans will feel, “It was worth the wait.” I hope you look forward to it. I think it will also be a very meaningful time for me.

KZ - Tu avais laissé entendre qu’un nouveau projet était prévu vers le milieu de cette année. Pourrais-tu nous donner un petit indice ?

ROCKY - Je prépare une nouvelle histoire qui me permettra de me rapprocher un peu plus des fans. J’espère que ce sera un projet où nous pourrons partager non seulement de la musique, mais aussi la scène, du contenu et des émotions ensemble.

Je le prépare avec sincérité afin que, après avoir attendu, les fans aient le sentiment que « ça valait le coup d’attendre ». J’espère que vous l’attendez avec impatience. Je pense que ce sera également un moment très important pour moi.

KZ - What are your plans for 2026? Would you like to come to Spain as well?

ROCKY - In 2026, I would like to meet fans in more countries in person. I want to perform, talk with them more closely, and create memories together.

Spain is definitely one of the countries I would love to visit. I believe music connects hearts beyond language, so I hope that one day I can greet fans there directly through a performance and breathe together with them in the same space.

KZ - Quels sont tes projets pour 2026 ? Aimerais-tu venir en Espagne aussi ?

ROCKY - En 2026, j'aimerais rencontrer mes fans en personne dans davantage de pays. Je veux me produire sur scène, échanger plus étroitement avec eux et créer des souvenirs ensemble.

L'Espagne fait sans aucun doute partie des pays que j'aimerais visiter. Je crois que la musique relie les cœurs au-delà des langues, alors j'espère qu'un jour je pourrai saluer mes fans là-bas directement lors d'un concert et respirer avec eux dans le même espace.

KZ - Please introduce yourself a little so that people who do not know you well yet will want to follow you. What makes you special or different? What kind of charm can you show?

ROCKY - I think I am someone who is not perfect, but who continues to learn and grow. Even through many changes, I tried to stand up again, and rather than explaining myself with words, I wanted to show who I am through music and performances.

On stage, I show strong energy and powerful performances, but in reality, I think I am also an honest and human person. There are still many sides of me that I have not shown yet, and I want to continue being with fans for a long time through better music and performances.

If I had to describe myself in one sentence, I would say I am “someone who wants to keep growing.” I want to continue becoming an artist who can sincerely stay with people for a long time.

KZ - Présente-toi un peu pour que ceux qui ne te connaissent pas encore bien aient envie de te suivre. Qu'est-ce qui te rend spécial ou différent ? Quel genre de charme peux-tu dévoiler ?

ROCKY - Je pense que je suis quelqu'un qui n'est pas parfait, mais qui continue d'apprendre et d'évoluer. Même après avoir traversé de nombreux changements, j'ai essayé de me relever, et plutôt que de m'expliquer avec des mots, j'ai voulu montrer qui je suis à travers la musique et mes performances.

Sur scène, je dégage une énergie intense et j’offre des performances puissantes, mais en réalité, je pense être aussi une personne honnête et humaine. Il y a encore beaucoup de facettes de ma personnalité que je n’ai pas encore dévoilées, et je souhaite continuer à partager de longs moments avec mes fans grâce à une musique et des performances toujours meilleures.

Si je devais me décrire en une phrase, je dirais que je suis « quelqu’un qui veut continuer à grandir ». Je veux continuer à devenir une artiste capable de rester sincèrement aux côtés des gens pendant longtemps.
