KZ- After completing your military service, using your real name and various covers, you founded your own agency. What can we expect from JUNHEE and A.C.E?
JUNHEE- You will be able to see a more personal and inhibited side of me as an artist, compared to before. All of us, including myself, share a similar mindset and are now building our own individual careers.
KZ- Après avoir terminé ton service militaire, tu as fondé ta propre agence sous ton vrai nom et sous divers pseudonymes. Que pouvons-nous attendre de JUNHEE et A.C.E ?
JUNHEE- Vous pourrez découvrir une facette plus personnelle et plus libérée de moi en tant qu'artiste, par rapport à avant. Nous partageons tous, y compris moi-même, un état d'esprit similaire et nous construisons actuellement nos propres carrières individuelles.
KZ- How would you say your voice has changed (metaphorically and literally) by not having to “fit into a mold,” in your words?
JUNHEE- I feel much more at ease. I’ve been practicing singing on my own every day, focusing on songs that suit my vocal range and sound pleasing to hear. Through that process, I’ve been developing colors and styles I didn’t even know I had. If both the fans who have always loved my voice and new listeners find it memorable when they hear me now, that would make me really happy.
KZ - Comment dirais-tu que ta voix a changé (au sens figuré et littéral) depuis que tu n'as plus à « rentrer dans un moule », comme tu le dis toi-même ?
JUNHEE - Je me sens beaucoup plus à l'aise. Je m'entraîne à chanter tous les jours, en me concentrant sur des chansons qui correspondent à ma gamme vocale et qui sont agréables à écouter. Grâce à cela, j'ai développé des couleurs et des styles que je ne soupçonnais même pas. Si les fans qui ont toujours aimé ma voix et les nouveaux auditeurs trouvent ma voix mémorable lorsqu'ils m'entendent aujourd'hui, cela me rendrait vraiment heureux.
KZ- “Molt” is an art film that marked your debut as lead actor and co-executive producer. What lessons did you learn from it, and what surprised you the most?
JUNHEE- ‘Molt’ was a project I poured a lot of thought into from the very planning stage. As the word “molt” suggests, I wanted to portray shedding the clothes that didn’t fit me, the things that weighed me down, and the makeup that didn’t suit me. Along with the gap and sense of dissonance between “my true self” and “the image that was created.” I tried to encapsulate and convey all of those layered meanings. This was the first time I transformed the thoughts and emotions within me into a visual art film. In that sense, It’s a deeply meaningful piece that represents a new beginning for me.
KZ- « Molt » est un film d'art qui a marqué tes débuts en tant qu'acteur principal et coproducteur exécutif. Quelles leçons en as-tu tirées et qu'est-ce qui t'a le plus surpris ?
JUNHEE- « Molt » est un projet auquel j'ai beaucoup réfléchi dès la phase de planification. Comme le suggère le mot « molt », je voulais représenter le fait de se débarrasser des vêtements qui ne me convenaient pas, des choses qui m'alourdissaient et du maquillage qui ne me convenait pas. Ainsi que le fossé et le sentiment de dissonance entre « mon vrai moi » et « l'image qui avait été créée ». J'ai essayé de résumer et de transmettre toutes ces significations multiples. C'était la première fois que je transformais les pensées et les émotions qui m'habitaient en un film d'art visuel. En ce sens, c'est une œuvre profondément significative qui représente un nouveau départ pour moi.
KZ- Of all your covers, “Your Idol” and “Free” (with AleXa) from the movie KPOP DEMON HUNTERS is one of the most viewed. What made you decide to do it?
JUNHEE- Honestly, it was purely because of my fans. During a livestream, they mentioned that this song sounded a lot like my voice, and when I listened to it, it really did. I think I could genuinely feel that, unlike usual, they truly wanted me to take this on haha. So I just thought vaguely, ‘If I do this, they’ll probably like it.’ That simple thought was how it began. In the end, thanks to my fans, it became a big hit and received so much love. I feel incredibly lucky and grateful. Thank you, my lucky C.C!
KZ - Parmi toutes vos reprises, « Your Idol » et « Free » (avec AleXa) tirées du film KPOP DEMON HUNTERS sont parmi les plus vues. Qu'est-ce qui t'a poussé à les reprendre ?
JUNHEE - Honnêtement, c'était uniquement pour mes fans. Lors d'un livestream, ils ont mentionné que cette chanson correspondait bien à ma voix, et quand je l'ai écoutée, c'était vraiment le cas. Je pense que j'ai vraiment senti que, contrairement à d'habitude, ils voulaient vraiment que je m'y attaque haha. Alors je me suis dit vaguement : « Si je fais ça, ils vont sûrement aimer. » C'est cette simple pensée qui a tout déclenché. Au final, grâce à mes fans, ça a été un grand succès et j'ai reçu beaucoup d'amour. Je me sens incroyablement chanceux et reconnaissant. Merci, mes chers C.C !
KZ—What personal topic—one that you would have been afraid to share before—are you now willing to sing about to the world?
JUNHEE- There are many stories, but I think the one that has been the hardest to bring up is the story about my family. I’m sure many artists can relate, but there is no subject as difficult and as emotionally overwhelming as family. That’s because we are shaped through countless exchanges of both great love and deep wounds. For that reason, I plan to tell that story at least once during my solo career.
KZ — Quel sujet personnel — un sujet que vous auriez eu peur de partager auparavant — êtes-vous désormais prêt à aborder dans tes chansons ?
JUNHEE — Il y a beaucoup d'histoires, mais je pense que celle qui m'a été la plus difficile à aborder est celle qui concerne ma famille. Je suis sûr que beaucoup d'artistes peuvent s'identifier à cela, mais il n'y a pas de sujet aussi difficile et aussi bouleversant sur le plan émotionnel que la famille. C'est parce que nous sommes façonnés par d'innombrables échanges à la fois d'amour profond et de blessures profondes. C'est pourquoi j'ai l'intention de raconter cette histoire au moins une fois au cours de ma carrière solo.
KZ- Tell us about your single “Supernova,” the concept behind it, what you want to convey, and how it came about.
JUNHEE- ‘Supernova’ is a song that expresses the explosive feeling of love that seems just within reach, yet remains elusive. In terms of sound, it uses a bassline and disco-style synths to portray a man’s rising and complex emotions. When planning the concept for this song, the key phrase I had in mind was “the male instinct toward the female.” I wanted to depict the image of an elegant, restrained black panther performing a courtship dance, expressing his love and going to any lengths to win the other’s heart.
KZ - Parlez-nous de ton single « Supernova », du concept qui le sous-tend, du message que tu veux faire passer et de la façon dont il a vu le jour.
JUNHEE - « Supernova » est une chanson qui exprime le sentiment explosif de l'amour qui semble à portée de main, mais qui reste insaisissable. Sur le plan sonore, elle utilise une ligne de basse et des synthés de style disco pour dépeindre les émotions grandissantes et complexes d'un homme. Lorsque j'ai imaginé le concept de cette chanson, le mot-clé que j'avais en tête était « l'instinct masculin envers la femme ». Je voulais dépeindre l'image d'une panthère noire élégante et réservée exécutant une danse de séduction, exprimant son amour et prêt à tout pour conquérir le cœur de l'autre.
KZ- What does it mean to you to “be someone people want to keep watching”?
JUNHEE- I suppose it would be someone who never leaves your mind. I want to walk the path of an artist who is not simply “No. 1” but more “One and only.” When people step into my musical world, I want them to feel there’s no one else who could take my place.
KZ - Que signifie pour toi « être quelqu'un que les gens veulent continuer à regarder » ?
JUNHEE - Je suppose que ce serait quelqu'un qui ne quitte jamais ton esprit. Je veux suivre le chemin d'un artiste qui n'est pas simplement « n° 1 », mais plutôt « unique ». Quand les gens entrent dans mon univers musical, je veux qu'ils sentent qu'il n'y a personne d'autre qui pourrait prendre ma place.
KZ- How do you envision the intersection between your solo music and the possible return of A.C.E?
JUNHEE- To be honest, I’m not very good at multitasking, so I don’t think my solo and group activities will ever overlap. When I’m preparing a solo album, I’ll probably devote myself entirely to that, and if I’m promoting with the group, I’ll focus on group activities as much as possible. I hope the time comes soon when I can start promoting again in any way.
KZ - Comment envisages-tu l'intersection entre ta musique solo et le retour éventuel d'A.C.E ?
JUNHEE - Pour être honnête, je ne suis pas très doué pour le multitâche, donc je ne pense pas que mes activités solo et celles du groupe se chevaucheront jamais. Quand je prépare un album solo, je m'y consacre probablement entièrement, et si je fais la promotion avec le groupe, je me concentre autant que possible sur les activités du groupe. J'espère que le moment viendra bientôt où je pourrai recommencer à faire la promotion d'une manière ou d'une autre.
KZ- How has the experience of having PhD production been?
JUNHEE- It was incredibly professional and truly impressive. PhD are already recognized in the industry as top-tier producers, with a career so extensive it’s hard to count their achievements. Working with them on’ Supernova’ was a smooth process, and we both knew exactly what we wanted. And honestly, not just because it’s my song, but the track is truly flawless in terms of sound. I hope the detailed elements we worked on reach the listeners as well.
KZ - Comment s'est passée votre expérience avec PhD Production ?
JUNHEE - C'était incroyablement professionnel et vraiment impressionnant. PhD est déjà reconnu dans l'industrie comme l'un des meilleurs producteurs, avec une carrière si riche qu'il est difficile de compter leurs réalisations. Travailler avec eux sur « Supernova » s'est déroulé sans accroc, et nous savions tous les deux exactement ce que nous voulions. Et honnêtement, ce n'est pas seulement parce que c'est ma chanson, mais le morceau est vraiment parfait en termes de son. J'espère que les détails sur lesquels nous avons travaillé toucheront également les auditeurs.
KZ- What are your plans for 2025?
JUNHEE- This year, starting with my first solo album, I’m planning various broadcast promotions, content activities, and a world tour. I think just these alone will probably fill up all of 2025. I’ve prepared many of the things fans have been waiting to see, so I hope you’ll look forward to them!
KZ - Quels sont tes projets pour 2025 ?
JUNHEE - Cette année, à commencer par mon premier album solo, je prévois diverses promotions à la télévision, des activités de contenu et une tournée mondiale. Je pense que cela suffira probablement à occuper toute l'année 2025. J'ai préparé beaucoup de choses que les fans attendent avec impatience, alors j'espère que vous vous en réjouirez !
